Yes, the book is hard to come by but Kay's sister informs us that it's available from the Book Depository and Abe Books at a price considerably less that the extortionate $40+ which newly cash-strapped Kiwis can't spare.

ERROR ALERT. Insurers have NOT been taken over by AIG (America) but by IAG (Australia). My daughter and her friends are all affected and the insurance scams are causing a lot of problems for people. What was a lovely community has been broken apart. personally I don't think there is the money to rebuild the city and - like you - feel that governments (having emptied the pot bailing out the bankers) won't have enough money to cope with natural disasters on this scale. Can't get hold of Sarah Miles book, but have contacted her to urge that she e-publish. Sounds like a great idea to me!
And congratulations on more books in print, Dennis. I'm raising a virtual glass!
Kathleen Joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07645566938871914385noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429560125838989988.post-46276791696084132842014-03-14T18:05:48.468+00:002014-03-14T18:05:48.468+00:00By the way, the city is now having severe storms a...By the way, the city is now having severe storms and flooding. If we can get it on there we'd have performed a good deed in a naughty world. She has a blog with only 200 followers out of a population of 400k. Speaks for itself.

It would be good if we could become a major presence on her facebook page. I shall send her my blog, minus the publishing bit. (May need your help, Cally!) and I'll put this up on my FB page, Dennis. Of course good news...Somewhat depressing all round. Of course good news about getting some 'conventional' publishing - but hollow laugh at what it can mean - why is it that getting an advance a year after publication or fighting to get paid at all is something to aspire to for a writer whereas indie writing is scorned?' (Rhetorical question) It's the reason I defected to screenwriting and made my career there - you get paid for NOT getting films made rather than not getting paid for writing you have done/published! As someone needing to earn a living it was a no-brainer for me 25 years ago!
But on the second half - more depressing. NZ may be the other side of the world but it seems that the strike of global capitalism is the same everywhere... the only positive I can suggest is to get hold of Sarah Miles and encourage her to publish as ebook - easier to get her work OUT THERE to people who might just want to read it. Using conventional, mainstream methods against 'the system' just doesn't work. IMHO.
CallyPhillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15481379296340077102noreply@blogger.com
