As I am discovering for myself the residential home experience can be such a liberation and a re-balancing of one's life. I am with mum every day, part of her and my routine and I observe two spouses doing the same thing. There's a woman with her husband in the room next door to mum who arrives at 11am everyday, rain or shine, and stays with him to have lunch together and time in the afternoon, then away she goes to cope with her own life and he settles contentedly to bed. And there's an elderly husband who arrives at tea time every afternoon and spends the evening with his wife. She is patently very ill but they love each other and are so peaceful and quiet together - it couldn't be like that if he were trying to manage alone with her at home.
So this is a GOOD nursing suite and must be celebrated as such. It's terrifying to think of the capacity for bad...
julia joneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09773900100240758504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429560125838989988.post-28468885765934957652016-12-10T11:05:56.489+00:002016-12-10T11:05:56.489+00:00This is my 4th attempt to write a comment. You and Nicci have achieved so much and, at the same time, coped with the most trying circumstances. Although I was aware that not all nursing and care homes were as diligent and caring as they should be, I(like I suspect many more of us) had no idea that such restrictions extended to them too - I imagined that free access for relatives was the norm across the board. Thank you for all you have done and are continuing to do xxx

PS In response to your query - Yes indeed they do! However, I must give one heartening piece of news. As I've mentioned before, my brother's wife has dementia and she is now in a residential home, Swan House in Winslow, Bucks. He has full access to it and has a full say in her care, the staff are amazingly welcoming, helpful and co-operative and the experience is proving wonderful for him, for her and for everybody associated with them. I'm thrilled for him.Dennis Hamleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15781139870037634374noreply@blogger.com
