This is a case in point. I did not see the film, but the novel (ULOB) is a retort to Friedrich Nietzsche. How would one film that argument? It is full of political insight - a peek into the minds of émigrés, artists who define themselves in negative terms, i.e., opponents of the Communist regime, the aftermath of the Soviet invasion. Drama defined as tanks, prison, persecution, banned books and occupation.<br />The novel is,perhaps, an effective antidote to the romanticism associated with youthful communist revolutionary zeal.Áinenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429560125838989988.post-24393187915060797432014-10-11T14:52:10.118+01:002014-10-11T14:52:10.118+01:00very impressive John and perhaps you should write ...very impressive John and perhaps you should write your memoirs of your visits to the places and literature in book or novella or memoir form. I have to say Unbearable Lightness of Being is one of very few films I walked out of, bored beyond endurance, despite my admiration for D Day-Lewis' acting in general.
