I do count C S Lewis as one of the greats and I loved him as a child (probably shows in my posts!) but I agree about problem areas, especially with Susan. A strangely puritanical and judgemental attitude, clearly to do with his own sexual hangups and inhibitions. It didn't bother me at the time, as one always much preferred Lucy to Susan anyway, but it did later. All writers have their flaws I guess and C S Lewis spent much of his life as a rather crusty bachelor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429560125838989988.post-30954517525542243842018-04-01T11:51:19.612+01:002018-04-01T11:51:19.612+01:00Very enjoyable and instructive, Griselda (the best...Very enjoyable and instructive, Griselda (the best sort of writing). Eg susan being effectively punished and shamed by the narrator for a totally natural teenage interest in clothes and make up etc. Very puritanical, public school cold showers kind of stuff. Blyton understood how much children like food which is why there's lots of it in her books, and a much better writer, Ransome, goes into lots of meal details and how they make them, in the Swallows and Amazons books.
