You illuminate very useful and creative ideas here, even for the jaded - like me - as well as for bright-eyed novices, Susan! Thank you. Even in crime novels, the 'ending' isn't just the obvious 'solution' to the mystery. The fact that one has breathed a bit of life into a group of individuals means that all sorts of things will continue to develop. In The Figurehead my bloke 'solved' the mystery of the death but made the mistake(?) of getting involved with a rather interesting woman, so friends and readers clamoured for a resolution of that thread. Hence The Likeness, although I had to rewrite the 'ending' of that 8 times before they were satisfied (although some then called for a third instalment to know whether the 'ending worked, and if it did, how?)Bill Kirtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16345949773423764808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2429560125838989988.post-53366803298168395872019-10-25T10:32:02.958+01:002019-10-25T10:32:02.958+01:00Brilliant post, Sue! On the rare occasions that I've managed it, I think it has resulted in my best writing - prose and poetry. But it's so bloody hard!
