We Are Resolute - Sarah Nicholson

A group of writers came together with one vision: to build an independent consortium of experienced authors, professional editors and talented designers producing engaging and inspiring books of the highest quality for readers everywhere.

Ruth Leigh, who used to regularly write for Authors Electric, is the sort of friend who always leads me into some new adventure.

First, she got me a slot here writing a monthly blog post and more recently she invited me to join Resolute Books.

I’ve become a member of this consortium at just the right time, missing the zoom meetings about setting up a constitution and other more mundane stuff but arriving with perfect timing to attend a lavish book launch.

Some of the Resolute authors - glasses of fizz in hand!

To borrow Ruth’s words from the blog, Resolute Books was conceived at the end of 2022 when “two experienced and multi-published authors came together to talk about a collaboration. They wanted to create a group of like-minded people who love words and are passionate about sharing them with the world.”

Writing is a solitary pastime and self-publishing can be both rewarding and daunting. With Resolute there is always someone on hand who can help-out when you get stuck with part of the process, or need some guidance or general advice. (The WhatsApp group is pinging away as I type this.)

Having a group of seasoned authors around to help really appeals to me as a writer who has not yet published a physical book. I’ve had stories published in anthologies and online. I’ve written a blog for over ten years; I know I have skills -- Ruth always tuts when she hears me say that I “dabble” with this writing lark. It is good to have a few champions on your side to encourage you as you take the next steps.

The other draw for me is that everything published under the Resolute banner will be peer reviewed by our other authors to make sure we are only publishing the best and most compelling stories. This is self-publishing but with lots of quality control.

I still have a way to go with my memoir, I’m on the second draft of the current version but hope to have it published by the end of the year.

Meanwhile the first two Resolute books were launched on 20th May at our BIG launch event in Dorset.

Ruth Leigh being loquacious and introducing Resolute Books

Wheel of Fortune by C.F.Dunn – the first in an ambitious series of historical novels takes place against the backdrop of the War of the Roses. Following the fortunes of young Isobel Fenton who having lost both her parents is at the mercy whichever rich and powerful Lord takes her under his wing.

Claire's book table complete with crown and sword

Local Killer by Paul Trembling – actually the fourth in Paul’s “Local” series but each crime novel stands alone. Judge Ruth Darnley spent five of her last ten minutes speaking to C.S.I. Alison Kepple. After saying goodbye, Ruth reached her car and within seconds there was a massive explosion, which proved fatal for the judge. A shaken Alison goes on the hunt for the killer.

Paul even had a towel with the outline of a murder victim on his table,
somewhere under the other evidence

We had an amazing day in a gorgeous setting, the sun was shining and the fizz was flowing. It was great to meet the other authors who I'd only seen on zoom before. Hopefully we can have many more of these sorts of events as Resolute goes from strength the strength and our catalogue of exciting stories grows. Just like a box of assorted chocolates at Christmas, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

I hope to do a review of the Resolute Books published so far next month, so if you please excuse me, I have a bit of reading to catch up on...

Sounds exciting Sarah. I'm just writing an essay for an adult ed journal but will come back to this. The great thing about AuthorsElectric is that nothing's ever lost, and you can scroll back. Keep us all posted about what happens next! Great to hear about the progress of the memoir too.
