The Ice Angel Cometh -- Misha Herwin

 

October is a month for sprits, ghosts, phantoms, ghouls and witches. This October for me is also the time for an angel – the Ice Angel to be precise. She is one of the characters in the eponymous final story of my series of children’s books “The Adventures of Letty Parker.” 

Set in an alternative Victorian Bristol, Letty and her Associates solve mysteries and seek the missing, but this time Letty must travel out of the city where she has contacts and support and into the Land of Ice where she will have to face her angelic opponent on her own.

Stories, like books, start with a seed of inspiration, or an idea which grows into a final product. Unlike fruit, however, books don’t grow by themselves, they need beta-readers and editors and proof-readers and in my case someone to format the publishable copy. A writing group that gives feedback and support is invaluable and if you’re very lucky, like I am, there is also an artist who has produced the picture for the cover and the designer who has made it work.

Once all these processes have gone through there comes the moment when the book is ready to be launched into the world. I’ve written before about how hard it can be to let it go and it’s so much harder when it’s the last book in the series. But the time has come and “The Ice Angel” the last in the series of “The Adventures of Letty Parker” is ready.

Letty is growing up. What happens to her next has to be in the imagination of the reader. When they are ready to move on with her. As for me, although this is the last adventure to be chronicled, I know that somewhere that City of Secrets, Letty Parker and her associates are still living their lives, running their businesses, legal and not, and growing into the adults I will not be writing about.

In spite of my reluctance to say goodbye, I’ve enjoyed writing “Ice Angel” and I hope my readers and the book-bloggers who have supported Letty throughout, will enjoy the last of her adventures too.
